movie recommendations?
I've had a shitty few days down here in NC. Most of the movies and TV shows I have saved on my hard drive are angsty, and angst is the last thing I need right now. Who can recommend something funny and fun and mindless to watch? (It needs to be something I can download on iTunes, Amazon Unbox, Netflix, or Movielink.)

i feel: bored bored

I always watch Love Actually when I need a feel good movie. Limited angst, unless you are currently being cheated on by your husband, in which case, a little more angst.

Cold Comfort Farm! (Kate Beckinsale before she started making shitty action movies), Clue, Scrubs episodes, Miss Congeniality, Mirror Mask (OK, some angst), Princess Bride, Animaniacs, um... I'm trying to think of what's on my DVD shelf and failing.

Ohh, yes, Clue!

Cold Comfort Farm is a comedy?
kestrel127 From: kestrel127 Date: March 31st, 2008 09:46 pm (UTC) (base camp)
OMG yes. It has Rufus Sewell as an oversexed farmhand, one of the AbFab girls as an undergarmet collector and Ian McKellan as a fire & brimstone preacher. It's fantastic.

I'm going to co-sign Cold Comfort Farm. It's hilarious in that dry English-wit kind of way. Brilliant Film.

Batman movies always cheer me up. Or the obnoxious yet endearing Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

I hope the sun gets a little brighter in your world, metaphorically speaking.

I'd have loved Batman Begins even more if Katie Holmes hadn't been in it. She was the one spot where I just could NOT suspend my disbelief.

My Christian Bale fangirl self can overlook Katie Holmes. Ze cannot, however, overlook a bad afro wig, a la I'm Not There. ::sigh::

Now I wish all those old Batman 1 hour TV specials with the really fun POW! and KABLOWIE! screens were on DVD. Those were good fun.

Also, it could stand to get brighter in a literal sense, too -- it's been raining for two days. That probably doesn't help.

I think I'll go get a chicken pot pie from Boston Market. That might help.

Dunno if these are available on any of those, but off the top of my head:

Mystery Men
Miss Congeniality
Speed

"Alexander Nevsky" was highly entertaining to me, and available online from Netflix. I especially enjoyed cheering on the chick who armored up and fought...

A good movie, especially if you know the reference to when it was made and what was going on in the Soviet Union during that time.

I have "Battleship Potemkin", which I enjoy because of the scene with the Odessa Steps. That scene has been used in so many other movies...

One of my favorites for mindless entertainment is Big Trouble in Little China.

If you haven't already seen it, you should totally watch Kinky Boots. It's wicked funny.

And the Princess Diaries movies always cheer me up, but that may be because I never stop hoping Julie Andrews will show up at my door and tell ME I'm an actual Princess.

Kinky Boots is indeed made of awesome. Red awesome, not burgundy awesome.
knitprincess From: knitprincess Date: April 1st, 2008 04:15 pm (UTC) (base camp)
Indeed.

Man, I could watch that.

No movie recommendations, but I sure hope you get to come home and go for a fun ride again soon! Maybe there will be crocuses by the time you return!

I fly home on Friday. Saturday I reset, and Sunday I'm off to upstate NY again for about a week. Then I'm home! Yay!
