workroom lighty goodness - when you don't know what to do... — LiveJournal

workroom lighty goodness
I took myself off to Home Despot last night in search of lighting for my new workroom. I was looking for a fixture, but lucky me, found a clerk who actually knew what he was talking about, and who steered me to track lighting.

This is not your mother's track lighting, with the big ass cans and clunky spotlighty look. This is way cool track lighting with gooseneck halogen bulbs that I can direct anywhere I like, and I can buy more lights if I want. Of course, that means that I can now see the horrid wallpaper and paint job that pass for decor in this room.

I got a mini-blind, too, but it's too narrow, so that needs to go back to the store to get exchanged for another. No worries there; I was winging it, anyway, and as I was bringing it home, I realized that I should have gotten the white one, instead of the alabaster -- it'd go better with the white track lighting. I'm such a girl.

I got my cutting table put together last night, too -- no more hunching over a table that's too short to out fabric! Now I just need the bureau from my mom's for fabric storage, a good vacuuming and washing of the woodwork (it can only help), move my yarn and fiber and spinning wheel up from the living room, and put up some shelves for books and such, and we're in business! Well, I'm in business. The room isn't big enough for two people to work in there. :-)

I'm stoked. It's little, and it's (partly) broken, but it's mine.

Careful how many lights you use and what the wattage is. You can burn up a set of track lighting pretty easy. No fun to see your ceiling smokin'.

Thanks for the warning! I'll keep that in mind.
