yet another decision made...
At least on my part.

I've chosen my wedding band -- it's the next to the last one on this page, and I want it in silver. Now I just have to get Wolfie to pick his out. We decided not to be matchy-matchy; since he rarely wears jewelry, it's more important that he finds a ring he likes and will wear than for him to match me.

Phew... one decision down, 1237378862486721377852452 to go. Or at least it feels that way.

i feel: sick sick

Very nice! You're having this one custom made?

No, we're ordering them from Denmark. I just need to figure out my ring size in European sizes.

just make sure he doesn't get it in stuff liek titanium. everyone wants it cause it is strong but that means if somethignhappens they can't cut it off your finger if they need to...

He's getting his from the same place, and they don't offer titanium.

However, the urban legend about not being able to cut off titanium rings is a fallacy: http://www.titaniumcommitment.com/faq.html

If I had the money for it, I'd want it because it's hypoallergenic, even more so than allegedly hypoallergenic stainless steel, to which I am actually allergic.

Even that says that titanium can be cut if it has the right equipment available. We had that question come up when a class was visited by a local EMT and they said they had better cutters on order... so until they come in, the titanium can't be cut off.

And I really like your ring, very nice.

Thanks for the compliment!

Regarding cutting Ti rings, what the EMT said just means that that particular ambulance service can't do it -- and honestly, when I was an EMT, I wouldn't have cut anyone's ring off unless it was necessary to the rescue. Otherwise, I'd leave it for the ER doc to make the call. My job was stabilize, package, and transport. The fact remains, the assertion that titanium rings can't be cut off is incorrect.

Yes I agree with that. You titanium is cuttable by somethings... and now that it is getting popular almost everywhere will be capable of cutting it.

(Like with hybrid cars, some fire response weren't equipped to put out electric fires until they got semi-popular)

The ring cutting issue is a bit close to home for me because my fiancees mom had to have all of her rings cut off when her hands swelled like crazy due to a nerve injury. Since I have bad nerve injuries on my right hand and a history of them swelling, I would like my rings to be cut off easily.

Okay.. so you were an EMT. Weren't you in the military too? What haven't you done yet?

Lovely ring! Congrats on the decision making. I agree with the not needing to be matching. More important that you both wear what you like. Good luck with the other 1237378862486721377852452 decisions to make. ;)

Oh yeah, I meant to ask you... I know you're preoccupied (as you should be) with wedding preparations, but are there any events down Carolingia way that you're planning to attend that would be something I shouldn't miss? As spring approaches, I'm getting more in the mood to travel to events and meet people...but if I'm gonna go all the way down there, I'd like to meet folks I already kinda "know".

Just let me know. :D

Congrats on making the decision!

Heh -- when I saw "chosen my band", I immediately thought "music" and was wondering who was playing your wedding. Oops. :-)
tashabear From: tashabear Date: March 21st, 2004 12:23 pm (UTC) (base camp)
Heh. Wolgemut, if I had unlimited funds, or Great Big Sea. Or Wolfie's band, Five Kinds of Ugly, but since he's the singer and will be busy that day, they might not sounds as good.

Music will actually be burned CDs -- lots cheaper. I should ask my household for music recommendations; there are a lot of aficionados.
