why am i awake?
Because I suspect that if I lay my head down, I'll start thinking of everything I have to do tomorrow.

We went to see Hellboy tonight. Ooh, good shit. Evil evil baddies, flawed good guys, monsters, nifty CGI, enough serious to keep me in my seat, enough funny to keep me amused... I didn't even miss having knitting in my hands. Two thumbs up, and I'd watch it on TV. Actually, I think I'd like to read the comic book, too. (Excuse me. Graphic novel.)

I tried to cut out a smock when we got home, but there is a flaw in my layout -- it's only really effective when there is no obvious pattern the length of the fabric. My fabric is a crinkle cotton (sue me, I just happen to have a bunch of it), and the crinkle runs the length. I'd have to use ten feet of fabric to make a smock under those circumstances, and I only have 5 yards (15 feet). I'm pretty much ready to say "fuckit" and buy linen from fabrics-store.com. It'd be more accurate and less irritating (from a cutting standpoint), and I can save the crinkle for under-tunics for Wolfie.

So I cut Wolfie's tunic instead, and made a minor mistake there, too -- I meant to make the side panels out of the scrap on the side of the layout, and I screwed up and cut that length in half. Eh, so I have to piece the side panels at the top. I could have made worse mistakes. I'll just hide the piecing under the arm. No one (except people who read my LJ) will ever know (and you guys won't tell, right?).

That's my project to work on while Wolfie rides tomorrow -- I'm going to start handsewing his tunic. There is no way I want to spend all of tomorrow at practice and not get anything done for the wedding, and this is the only thing I can think of. I should be able to get the minor seams done -- piece the side panels, attach the gussets and gores (crap, forgot to cut gussets), and attach them to the sleeves. Might even get the shoulders sewn. If it comes to it, I can start attaching the sleeve assembly to the body, but I doubt I'll get that far.

I wouldn't do this on any tunic other than Wolfie's, because the others will need altering after the fact, I think. (I need to remember to get Dad's measurements.) But this can be my "need handwork, feel guilty knitting, have adequate lighting" project. Feels good to have something cut and ready to assemble. And let me just add that 2.5 gallon ziplocs are HUGE! I gotta get more of these; they could make my yarn stash even more manageable. (It needs tidying, believe you me.)

I should really go to bed, so I can get up in the morning, make sure I have everything I need (pins, thread, scissors, measuring tape, chair), take a shower, get food, get water for while we're there... Blah. I'd stay home, but we're meeting frostyw for dinner (Quizno's! I'm excited; I've never had it before), and then stopping off at Mom and Dad's to see them after their trip. I missed my mommy! (and daddy, and seester, who I will call tomorrow or Monday, to give her reunion time with her sweetie.)

So there's that...
