Hey Tasha. I really enjoyed reading your SCA geekery! Makes me miss the RenFaires we used to do... Ah well! I keep telling melenka that academic politics is "Same RenFaire, different costumes."

My darling neighbor's awesome husband is working on my car. Trade-in-worthy is what we're (I say "we" like I'm helping; I'm just listening and nodding and beginning to understand what he's talking about) aiming for... He's damned good; he'll get it there.

Meanwhile I've heard that my manuscript proposal was passed to the next editor in the line at the BritPress so I'm reasonably pleased.

Totally poor, but reasonably pleased. And so happy that you had a good time and came back bursting with ideas for improvements!!!

*hugs*

So... once the car is trade-worthy, what do you think you'll get?

Yay on the manuscript proposal! When you send this sort of thing off, do you have the finished manuscript sitting in the drawer awaiting the word to send it on, or do you really start the writing once they've accepted it?

I'd already realized what improvements needed to be made; this weekend just cemented the notion that they need to be done sooner rather than some fictitious "later." Except for the longhouse; that's a fairly recent development. I may have just gotten an idea for a bed, too; some pondering may be in order.

I have a calzone on the way. I think I'll go downstairs and wait for it and ponder some more. And sew. Must sew.

I might get as much as $5K on the trade-in; we'll see. And thanks for the YAY! :) Since this particular manuscript is based on my dissertation, it really is pretty much done. I need about a week or so to clean it up before I'll let anyone look at it too closely (taking out a lot of the "dissertation-ese" and the bits where I had to overexplain myself so that those members of my committee who weren't familiar with the texts I was talking about could have a clue without having to read too much). So yeah, this one is more or less "sitting in a drawer." Sometimes, though, they tell me, people will propose a book before it's finished or even started; the press will usually ask for "projected completion date" as part of the proposal. That's the way it works for academic presses, anyway. Dunno 'bout presses interested in fiction or such...

Have fun sewing! Hope the calzone was good! :)
