do the next thing
go floyd!
So Wolfie is trying to get his old machine running again (after burning all the important files to CD), and it boils down to installing Win 3.1 because we can't install XP from DOS.  (Don'r ask me; I'm just taking dictation here.)  He has all the disks except for #3.  He  tried working around it.  No go.  he tried installing from something else.  No go.

He sat and thought some.

Then he got up and went in the closet, where we stashed some old stuff, and I hear "A-HA!"  And out he comes, Disk #3 in hand.

I have now promised him that I will not bitch about him saving every-damn-thing for at least a day.  Maybe two.

(Floyd is the little man in his mind who finds semi-forgotten facts and DJs his mental soundtrack.)

How old is this pc that you can install Win3.1 *and* upgrade to XP?? *mind boggles*

I shall file this info in my geek tips notebook and will hold onto all my old versions of Windows. Just in case ^_^

No... Win 3.1 was just to get the CDROM working. Then Win 98, then XP. Not that it's worked yet.

The post was more a paean to the Powers of Floyd.

I think my "Floyd" is on strike, and has been for a long time.
