I plied the cop of purple yarn last night.  It's so gorgeous -- violet with little hints of pink throughout.  Looks to be fingering weight, though I haven't measured the wpi yet (note to self, must get wpi gauge, as yardstick is to unwieldy).  I got 86 turns on my mini-niddy, which is about 24", so that's 172 feet, or 57 and 1/3 yards.  I should weigh the remaining fiber, to double-check the yield.  I'd really like to get enough for a pair of gloves out of this fiber, though if I don't, I could always combine it with the dark purple I bought at the same time.  Might make an interesting Fair Isle pattern or something.

Edit: I weighed the skein, and it's 1 oz. In a rush of brains to the head, I think I'll weigh the niddy, and mark that weight on it. Then I can weigh skeins on the niddy, do a little math, and get the skein weight. I occasionally have flashes of intelligence.

Ooh, prettiness! And evenly-spun prettiness, at that!

Thank you!

The even spinning thing was something I picked up right away. It's a good thing I don't like thick n thin yarn, because I don't think I could spin it if I wanted to.

Grrrrrr!

(Sorry - too much plying lately. Normal service will be resumed, &c &c...)

Take comfort... I nearly strangled my right middle finger off last night plying that purple yarn. I'm very fond of that finger too, and use it frequently as an instantaneous communications device.

Does that stuff finish up softer than it feels in the skein? Because it feels like Brillo to me...

It softens some with washing, but I'm planning on felting. It's definitely NOT next-to-the-skin yarn, IMO.
