I like dreamhost a lot - that's who I use for my shell account/blog/webhosting needs.

For what?
How much traffic do you expect?
How much space do you need?
How much do you want to pay?
etc. etc. etc.

It has some great packages where you can get pretty decent hosting for about $10 for a year. That's where I found my "student plan" (accuwebhosting.com - I don't think it's offerent anymore). My domain name was more expensive than the hosting.

Oh, most definitely. It does me no good to be paying an insanely low price if they have 50% downtime.
