The badge I want for the SCA may conflict.  I want Sable, a drop-spindle inverted [top-whorl] argent.  This is what I found in the Armorial:

Helva of Saxony
The following device associated with this name was registered in November of 1982 (via the Middle):
Vert, a full drop-spindle argent.

I get one CD for the change of color to the field, and possibly one CD for the orientation of the spindle.  I wonder if I inverted it and tilted it to bend sinister, if that would pass?  Time to go read the RfS... which says "Significantly changing the posture or individual orientation of charges in any group placed directly on the field, including strewn charges or charges overall, is one clear difference."  Now I need to figure out if inverting a charge like a spindle counts for a CD -- I think it must.

i feel: curious curious

Isn't it three CDs for items that could possibly conflict? Damn.. been so long since I used to help at this.

Nope, only two. I think it might have been three "clear visual differences" (CVDs) in the days prior to the Modest Proposal, but it's now two "clear differences," or CDs.

I am bad, bad, bad at conflict checking.

Still, I will chip in with my worthless opinion. ;)

Thinking aloud: If you are willing to make your badge fieldless, you get a bonus CD as it were. But you already have the change of color to the field, so maybe it's not necessary. I am just guessing here but I am not sure you would get a difference for the orientation since a drop spindle is basically long and skinny either way. I could be wrong there. If you tilt it to bend sinister, I would think that would solve that problem.

Take anything I say here with a mountain of salt.

I'm thinking it's like a sword. If there's a CD for sword inverted v. sword default, then the same should hold true for a spindle. Otherwise, I'll likely tilt it. :-)
