I'm unsubscribed from the SCA-Garb Yahoo!Group.  I can't take the whining anymore.

Worse than the LJ knitting community?

Ohmygawd YES. At least on knitting when someone starts in with the "you're all so meeeeean" crap, any number of people pop up to say "you're an idiot, get over yourself". The problem with people whining about garb snarks on SCA-Garb is that we can't say one way or the other whether the story is true, or how it really went down -- at least with knitting there's no real world interaction to cloud the issue.

And then there's the authenticity spectrum: those who are in the SCA to wear pretty clothes and party v. those who are here to learn nifty things (and wear pretty clothes and party). I'm sick of those who strive for something better being bashed as joykillers by those for whom a polyester t-tunic is sufficient.

In short: I. Have. Had. Enough. I'll get my garb fix elsewhere.

Might I recommend MedCos, http://slumberland.org/medcos ?

Heh. I haven't been reading my digests lately but I just looked. Yeah, it's getting stupid.

It goes through cycles of stupidity-- and this is one of its deeply, deeply stupid phases.

I read it because it's a trainwreck either in progress or about to happen, and I know all too well how hard it is to JUST DON'T LOOK...

It wouldn't be so bad if the cycles went from stupid to smart and interesting and back to stupid, but they go from stupid to really really stupid and back to simply banal.

I *miss* the old list.

guess it's good that I've been paying more attention to the age of the cotehardie list than to the SCA-Garb list. I've been deleting on site lately.

Thats why I only read the posts that seem relevant to somethign Im working on. I probably delete 90% of SCA-Garb without reading it.

I was on digest, though.

I have all my yahoo groups sent to my gmail account where 20 messages with the same subject line get grouped together as one message, so while I might actually be getting several hundred messages a day, it only looks like I got 20 and I can "archive" all of them with two clicks for the whole thing "select all unread" "Mark as read". Then if by some chance another subject happens to refer to a past subject I can just do a quick search for it.

Even with over 100 yahoo groups all set at individual mail I rarely have a problem with it, even when I don't get to check it every day.

I hate digest cause I have to actually open the messages to see whats in it. I think digest takes more time. Gmail has a gig of space so Im not worried about filling up my mailbox anymore.
