If you have any money to spare to make a charitable contribution this year, and you want to do something to support troops around the world, please consider donating to the USO. When I was leaving the US, USO volunteers came to us in line and gave us goody bags with all sorts of comfort items. The USO hosted us while we waited for the plane to board, with free internet access, snacks, and drinks. They hosted us at our layover in Germany. And the USO tent here at Camp Victory is truly an oasis, away from the sights and smells (oh, the smells) of desert life.

They really make a difference in our quality of life. I'd encourage all my friends to support them in any way you feel appropriate, whether by volunteering or donating money. I know the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines here at Camp Victory appreciate it.

It may sound utterly trivial, but my friends the Pirate Guys are about to publish a new book, and the publishers (Penguin) told them they had to stop selling their first, self-published book before it comes out in September. So they went up to Seattle last week and donated the entire remaining stock - about 1,500 copies - to the USO for distribution to troops in the Middle East.

It's just a silly volume of pirate humor, but the copies already circulating in Iraq and Kuwait have brought them a ton of fan mail from soldiers and Marines who got a good laugh out of it when they needed one.

On that topic, keep an eye out for things that would be nice to have there that you can't get. We need ideas for care packages to send you.

Are you drinking enough water? (Freya has been teaching me how to Jewish-mother...)

Keep your butt down.

Heh... I actually cut back a bit on my water consumption so I wasn't up all night going to the bathroom.

I'm still evaulating what we have and what we can't get enough of, but as soon as I determine what I really miss, I'll let you all know. I have a feeling that baby wipes and Kleenex will be on the list, since I've spent a lot of time these last two days with dust in my ears and up my nose.

Heya!

Can you e-mail me a mailing address, and we will send postcards from Pennsic?

I'll ask Wolfie to do it; don't remember the zip code at the moment. ;-)
