well, i'm surely certifiable now...
One of my household brothers posted a suggestion about getting armor for combat archery, since our prince has said that "Archery is pleasing to His Highness. Legions of Archers raining death from the heavens at Pennsic is priceless." I must be insane, because it's sounding like fun.

Cool thing is, Wolfie wants to do it too, so I may get the chance to stand shoulder to shoulder with my beloved husband and fire into the opposing force. Goosebump time. I think I need to rewatch Henry V.

I'm taking this week off from PT, and starting fresh next week. I think I'm going to add weight lifting to the mix -- gotta work on my shoulders, chest and back if I'm going to pull a bow! Also my abs and hip flexors, for the PT test. I like having something to work towards other than the damned PT test. Hey, we all have our motivators.

i feel: crazy crazy

strength training is great for losing weight, btw.

That too!

Motivators are a good thing. :) I found a motivator for tightening up my abs. While on vaca I saw a woman who had twins Daniel's age who had abs of steel. I then realized the only thing keeping me from that shape is lazyness and that isn't a good enough excuse. :) We will see how long this motivator lasts for me. Don't hold your breath.

Bill is all phyched about the CA too. We both really like archery and how much more fun would it be to shoot at moving targets! :) I probably won't be doing it since one of us has to watch the little guy, and dressing up in armor doesn't sound fun to me. If CA didn't have to wear armor and could be considered a kill just by having some fighters crossing a line I would be really considering it. But, lets face it, I am a wimp and prefer sniper fighting to most other forms. :D

As fun as it would be to have an Amazon Legion out there with all my girlfriends, I understand. I'm okay with the armor standards if only because melees move quick and I'd rather not get accidentally gakked or even hit with a stray projectile while paying attention elsewhere.

I don't think I'll ever see actual definition in my abs, but you just wait till you see my arms and back -- I've always been able to get good muscle tone in my upper body.

I'll trade half of my ab definition for booniesjen's legs. I'm the odd one out in the crew in that it's really easy for me to lose belly fat, but not hip and thigh.
tashabear From: tashabear Date: November 9th, 2005 11:06 am (UTC) (base camp)
I just got measured yesterday for body fat content, and I swear they had to have done it wrong. There is absolutely no way my pants could be falling off of me the way they are, and that I could have lost 6 or 8 pounds since September, and STILL have 50" hips. Grumble. (I'd think it was just me, but one of my female soldiers said she thought they taped loose, too.)
booniesjen From: booniesjen Date: November 9th, 2005 11:18 am (UTC) (base camp)
You know your body better than anyone else. And, having loose pants and lost weight are both very good things. :)
tashabear From: tashabear Date: November 9th, 2005 11:53 am (UTC) (base camp)
Yeah, but it's a metric that the Army uses, so it's important that the taping is done correctly, which it wasn't. I'm miffed.

True. That stinks.
booniesjen From: booniesjen Date: November 9th, 2005 11:12 am (UTC) (base camp)
Thanks for the compliment. :) Ever since I was pregnant (and the surgery) my middle is the last to get in shape. I will be very happy if I can get somewhere with that. I have always like the definition in my arms and legs when I am working out. But, I figure if my dad, who is 72, can get 6-pack abs then I have no excuse. :)

I'm glad I could contribute towards someone's insanity besides my own. : )

Muhahahaha.

Archers in armor? Full armor? Not like, just a plate here and there? Aren't archers supposed to be small and light and jumping out from behind the big guys' shields?

Or am I going too far back in time?

Anyway, archery gear looks really cool on a female...

More like you're unfamiliar with East Kingdom/SCA armor requirements for combat archery. Given that melees move FAST across terrain and you have limited peripheral vision in a helm, you could get knocked over and stepped on if you get taken unawares, and I for one would rather wear more armor than less in such a case. Also, what if you run out of arrows before you run out of targets? If you're armored and a qualified heavy fighter, you can take up another weapon and join the fray.
