The vet called today. The lumps in/on his abdomen are abscesses, and they need to be cleaned out and analyzed, so we can tailor the anibiotic to the critters in his belly. This of course necessitates his sedation (because he was sure as hell mad enough at the needle last week), and he won't be off antibiotics any time soon, so we won't be going to Southern Region War Camp. Even if we did board him at the vet, they're not in on Sundays, so there'd be no one to give him his meds or make sure he's okay.

I can't say I'm regretting missing the 10-hour drive for what would amount to a one-day event (darkwolfie has to work on Sunday), but I was supposed to meet up with baronadhemar and discuss court heraldry stuff, and I regret missing that. Max is our baby, though; he comes first. At least this isn't anything worse. A bacterial infection is treatable. I'm just glad that I did take him to the vet and get him looked at. They can't be comfortable for him, and I think he'll be back to his old self when he gets this cleaned up and healed. I sure hope so, anyway. He's such a love... Everyone at the vet's loves him.

Poor guy! At least you have an idea of what it is now. Sick pets and sick babies are the worst - they can't tell you what's wrong. :/

He never had any of the classic symptoms -- he never stopped eating, and he was hiding, but we thought he was just being weird.

Hope Max is going to be okay, and feels better real soon. Poor kitty. And I totally understand staying home for the patient. Thank goodness it isn't anything worse and is treatable.

He really is a wonderful kitty. I'm sure he'll be fine, but we gotta get him cleaned up first. :-D
