whew... ahead of schedule
For those of you who don't know, I'm one of the SCA Webfolks. I'm supposed to be doing User Interface stuff. Mostly, what it means is that I get a lot of weird spam (religious ministry management software, anyone?) Last week, I took on an assignment from Robin Gallowglass (sca.org webmaster and all-around guru) to create a new user interface for an upcoming offering on the SCA, Inc. website (can't tell you specifically what just yet). I promised it to him for Monday, so he can present it to the Board of Directors on Thursday (or sometime this coming weekend). I started it, and got the basic look-and-feel done earlier this week. However, I was so wiped out by the time I finished with the first go-round that I forgot to save the Fireworksdraft! Tonight, I sat down and redid it from scratch, and I think I came up with a much better product. I had to redo practically all of the component graphics, but that was no big deal -- I've been doing that in Photoshopfor ages. What slowed me down was the poor lighting in here, the smaller monitor (the one I had working at TMP was massive), and relearning how to use Fireworks -- I have a book around here somewhere, but frankly, I'm a little afraid to go looking for it.

I'm pleased, though. I finished an assignment ahead of schedule, and we have plenty of time to tweak it and add pages and stuff to the diectory. I think it looks pretty damn spiffy.

In other news... I was talking to my boss at Kimball'stoday, telling her what fun I've had working there at the end of his season (even though the tips have been wicked shitty this week). I said something to the effect that I wished the baker needed help, because I'd love to try baking professionally.

I worked at this deli years ago, and the owner couldn't bake his way out of a brown paper sack. I was itching to bake for him, but he wouldn't even let me serve coffee, so I'm pretty sure that a batch of tollhouse cookies would have been out of the question. (I'd just like to add that had he let me do what I was asking, i.e. wait on customers, I firmly believe his business would have been a lot better. Maybe he wouldn't have FAILED.)

Anyway. Bosslady told me that the baker did indeed need help, and I'm thinking that maybe I'll be able to give it a shot! I have such great recipes, between me and my mom -- everything from pie crust to breads to cookies and bars. The bakery is a little crowded, but once the stand is closed, maybe I can go out there and mix stuff up, get it ready to bake or whatever. I so want this. I'm a good cook (boil-overs and fires notwithstanding), and I absolutely love to bake. Carbs and me have this love-love relationship. They love me so much they stay with me forever.

Wish me luck. This could be a lot of fun.
