New addition to the wishlist(and I'm having WAY too much fun putting it together, lemme tell ya...): Belabouring the Obvious, by Spider Robinson. The man's a brilliant writer, and a great blues guy? Unfair, too much talent in one skinny body! If I find out he draws I shall have to throw a hissy fit.

(In case anyone thinks that the wishlist is all presumptuous, let me just add that I'm more or less doing it to make life easier for my mom and Wolfie's, and to help me remember the books and such that I thought I'd like to get for myself when I had time and money. I don't expect anyone to get me ANYTHING off the list, but if it helps, it helps.)

A couple of reasons, actually. Firstly, the first time I was engaged (I've been engaged twice, never made it to the altar either time, thank any god who's listening), I told my fiance that we needed to go register. He looked at me like I'd gone mad, and asked me if it wasn't a little presumptuous, telling people what to get us for our wedding. I gave him the same answer -- it's a guide to needs and tastes. However, if he thought that, then there might be other folks out there who might possibly think I'm a money-grubbing little tart who just wants people to give me things. (Well, I *do* want people to give me things, like, say, a job and a paycheck, but anyway...) Secondly, because of an article on Salon.com about webcam girls (which I am NOT) and their wishlists -- apparently random people who read their blogs and watch them on webcam will buy them stuff. Call me paranoid, but I just don't want to be associated with that. And then there's SaveKaryn.com, another site I read about in a Salon article. :-)

On the other hand, as I said, I like some pretty obscure stuff, and with my parents' well-known track record of buying almost but not quite what I asked for (and spending more money for the wrong thing, to boot), I thought it only prudent to make up the list and be annoyingly specific. Wolfie's mom, too -- I like her, but we couldn't be more different. Then again, I've been annoyingly specific with my parents before, to the point of taking my mom's hand at Radio Shack, pointing at a clock radio, and saying "I want THAT ONE for Christmas," and I still didn't get the one wit the cassette player, and the one I did get, without the tape player, cost $5 more. Go fig. :-)

Well, they try, they really do... it's just that sometimes they're in the right stadium, but on the wrong side of the field.
