clotheses
I did some more sewing tonight.  I need to rethink my smock pattern; it's a little on the skimpy side as far as hem width goes, and I don't have any more of that fabric, so I can't piece it, and I don't have time to run up to Fabric Fix on the off chance that they might have a couple of yards of it.  It's not a huge deal; it's a smock, and as long as I'm making my aprons these days, no one will see how narrow the width is unless I show them.  It's just irritating.

All that's left to do on it is the finish work on the sleeves and bottom hem, and I have to do the same thing on Wolfie's matching tunic.  Neither of those should take long.  Then I was thinking I might whip out an apron dress before the event, and voila, a second new outfit.  I can do that if I send darkwolfie to the laundromat for me tomorrow, which I will if it's raining and he can't make a camping bed for us (I'm not actually expecting that to happen; the weather's been awful for woodworking the last two or three days).  Otherwise, the apron can wait, and I'm cool with that, though I will ask him to make a divider for the Big Bertha box, so I can see if we can fit the garb and the bedding in.

I think I'll wait till after GNEW to see if the canvas will fit in the blue plywood box, since the top still needs painting and it took three coats to cover the box.  For now, though, bed.

I'm fascinated by your descriptions of the clothes, boxes, bedding, etc. Do you have any photos?

A few...

I made my husband's tunic and pants in this picture; we bought the cloak and hood. (Bought the hood that day, in fact, as it was really cold and really wet.)

This is an old picture of our yurt; we now have a wooden door, and there is a smokehole cut in the center of the roof, for which we have a canvas cover in case of rain.

The bedding is just sheets and blankets and pillows; nothing special. The box is gorgeous, but I don't have any pictures of it yet. I'll get some this weekend. And I don't have any pictures of darkwolfie and I together... annoying. I'll have to rectify that this weekend as well.

Wow - that yurt is amazing :) I always wanted to join the SCA when I was growing up, but I was always too busy - and alas, now I am still always too busy :( I'm fascinated by it, at any rate, and love reading your posts about events. For some reason I was picturing the bedding as something special, probably because you always mention it in conjunction with other Really Cool things!

Well, I do have really pretty sheets -- gold, with a subtle stripe, and 100% cotton, which is SO comfy when you're camping in the summer. I got them at WalMart. :-D

The bedding isn't special, per se, but it is vital. Someday I may have the time to make a Really Cool bedspread, though I haven't even thought of what it might be. Maybe I'll embroider a border, and get my sister to do a whole-cloth quilt for me (or help me do it myself).

I love my yurt. It's so comfy, and I have this really deep satisfaction at having built it with my husband. It's such a confidence booster to know that we could build our own shelter, if we need to.

And just so you know, the SCA demands only what you have time and energy to give (as long as you're decent at saying "no"). You could just do a weekend event once in a while if you wanted.

I'll take more pictures this weekend, I promise!
