Northwest Outlet is the bomb.

I've been looking for replacements for two of our camping lanterns. They're small, battery-powered, not terribly bright (which I find to be a plus; I don't like lanterns that screw up my night vision -- I want to see whether or not the portapotty is locked, not perform surgery). They were also cheap.

After extensive searching, I was getting frustrated. All I could find were either super-bright LED lanterns that cost a fortune, propane-fired lanterns that also weren't cheap, and candle lanterns. I rejected anything requiring flame out of hand, because our tent is not fire-retardant, and also, I don't feel like finding a lighter, firestick, or matches every time I want a light source to find my hood in my tent.

Finally I found a brand and a lantern that I liked: the Dorcy Luminator. It has a dimmer switch, it has a hanging hook, it can be inverted for downlighting. Perfect; just what I was looking for. So I went looking for a vendor, and found Northwest Outlet, where they carried the object of my desire for the princely sum of $7.99, which was about half of what I was willing to pay, but exactly what I was hoping to pay.

I placed my order on Saturday, July 22. I was notified, via email signed by an actual person (unless the computer is named Kathleen), that it shipped Monday, July 24th, via priority mail. I got it today, and I couldn't be happier. Now all I need are batteries and I'm in business.

I'd buy from Northwest Outlet again. Their shipping was prompt, the price was right, and it was an incredibly smooth transaction. Now let's see if Harbor Freight and Stacks and Stacks can measure up (though considering I placed the NW Outlet order last, out of the three, they've already lost the race).

i feel: hungry hungry

Oh, look! They're all super-bright! And all over $30! Or use fuel instead of batteries!

Nice try, but the exact opposite of what I was looking for, and so very much NOT spending $75 on lanterns. Thanks anyway.

Hey...

Do you ever watch or listen to the Blue Collar Comedy Tour?

Yep, why?

Because this thread reminds me of the skit done by Bill Engvall in the beginning of "One for the Road", concerning 'headlight slippers'.

:D :D :D

Ohhhh... Blue Collar TV! I thought you were talking about the tour that they taped. No, I haven't seen too much of the actual show.

However, I do see the actual slippers, and those are the silliest things ever. If I'm going to spend $40 on slippers, I want these.

*LOL* Those are too cool...

No, the headlight slippers were in the third Blue Collar Comedy Tour, not the TV series... It was right in the beginning. (I have the CD if you'd like to borrow it sometime).

I still think the second tour was the best, but the third one has some good jokes in it too.

And yeah. Ask msmemory about what I wore in response to my question to her of "Can I wear comfortable footwear to 12th Night?" for thorsbaby and svava's 12th Night Court....

Hee!! :)

Saw those. They are twice what I paid for the full-size lanterns.

Re: i should have read more carefully

Closer. Much, much closer. Again, though, bright is NOT a positive thing here, and that one doesn't seem to feature a dimmer switch. Remember, these are specifically for SCA camping, and I have always felt that really bright lights, in addition to ruining my night vision, totally ruin the mood we're trying to set. We're actually so happy with the ones we bought at NWOutlet that I ordered two more yesterday. Thanks, though, I appreciate your looking.
