One of the most difficult items of clothing to get right for any SCA outfit is shoes. Period shoes can be had, to be sure, and darkwolfie and I each have a pair of Jorvik boots... but they're brown. They simply will not do with the greyscale Viking outfits I have planned for Twelfth Night.

So tonight, I was at my mom's house, flipping through my dad's Cabela's catalog, when I ran across these boots, in the white. Super cute, not too too spendy, and I'd wear them with other "civilian" outfits. When I got home, I hit the Cabela's website to find them. Lo and behold, there were other appropriate options for less money!

I actually ended up ordering these, in black. They won't get dirty as quickly, I'd be more likely to wear them with jeans, and they're less than half the price of the pretty white boots. They aren't as squeefully cute, but they'll work. And I got these for darkwolfie. He says he'll wear them other than with garb, and even if he just wears them around the house to keep his feet warm, I'm happy, because they were only $30, too.

I also got my color cards from Halcyon today. I want one of each of the Gemstone silks, just to put under glass and sigh over the booful shininess of it. But I'll be good, and only order what I need right now, which is (I think) just some white, and then grey and black Jaggerspun to make leg wraps for darkwolfie.

Looks like the project is moving forward somewhat!

Kewl. I usually wear sport mocs with my kit...should think about getting some boots like that, though. Hard to find feminine looking unobtrusive scadian footgear sometimes, isn't it?

It's getting a little easier, once you know the shape you're looking for. These boots by Born were also in the running, but $30 v. $160... I really want the Born boots, though. Maybe if I'm patient the price will drop below $100, and then I'll buy them.
