revenge of the cream soup

Queen of the self-diagnosis that I am, I think I have irritable bowel syndrome. Sometimes I get these awful stomach cramps that are only alleviated (quickly, at any rate), by pounding about half a liter of water. I usually get those when I'm dehydrated or stressed, or both, or when my body decides I'm having Too Much Fun. And sometimes, if I eat the wrong thing, my body tells me about it, in great detail, while I spend quality time reading the porn stash in the bathroom. Good thing Playboy has such great articles.

It used to be that it was just garlic powder and onion powder that would do me in, making a trip to Outback Steakhouse something of a time bomb. Now it seems to have extended to dairy products as well, making my enjoyment of such delights as ice cream and now cream soups a calculated risk as well. Thing is, it doesn't always do this to me. To add another metapor to the mix, it makes eating dinner a game of Russian Roulette.

I never thought I'd be laid low by a bowl of clam chowder.

I have similar problems, and have noticed that the severity seems to have *something* to do with my monthly cycle. I keep meaning to start a chart of when this happens, what I've eaten during the entire course of the day, and when in my cycle it occurs.

But yeah, highly annoying. I feel for your pain.

Ooh. I hadn't thought of that. I just finished this week. I'll have to pay more attention to that sort of thing.

even with IBS, Lactaid still works. It's really veryvery nice. My stomache is touchy, too. Mostly very creamy dairy products, but some other things I don't understand. Anyway, Lactaid works wonders! So does trying not to stress. Good luck!

"cream" soups...

Hi Tasha,

We haven't met, but I'm a sometime friend of a friend, if my whoops this weekend can be smoothed.

Anyhow, I've found that cream soups are a pest for me, and I've taken to adding a good handful per serving of mashed potato flakes when a clear-ish soup is almost ready. It thickens the soup, and is yummy. Even that bard (who's hated soup for 45 years) will eat it.

Just a thought, and hope things work out!
