no shit, there i was...
...watching Food Network, which, just let me add, is a lot safer when you're not hungry, and there was a commercial-esque spot featuring a woman who is allergic to gluten, and mentioning her website, Gluten-Free Girl. So I thought I'd post it here, in case kuzu_no_ha hasn't seen it.

In other news, I went to my mom's old house today in a further effort to clear out the attic. She gave me this massive, heavy vinyl portable closet that's going in the basement for garb storage. Now that I have cabinets and a countertop down there for storage and a folding surface, I was thinking that it would be good to have an iron and ironing board down there so I can take garb out of the dryer, iron it, and put right into the closet. profesor and palegreyminion are giving me a piece of vinyl flooring that I'm going to put down in the laundry area so I can iron down there without garb dragging on the dirty floor. And since I own at least two irons, all I need to buy is the ironing board. Now all I need to do is put a radio down there and it'll be a party.

i feel: tired tired

Ironing boards go across our Freecycle group all the time. That's where I got mine, in fact!

I'll have to take a look. I'm not nutty about the one in my sewing room, anyway, so maybe I'll replace it and take that one down cellar.

I love her website! It was one of the first one someone sent me. That's so cool you saw an ad type thing! That's fancy.

and thank you for thinking of me!

Well, knowing the issues you've been having, and my friend booniesjen's struggles with dairy and eggs and soy, my mom and brother-in-law's diabetes, and my mom's friend's allergy to corn... let's just say I'm becoming a lot more conscious of the food I eat, and a whole lot more grateful that I don't have those issues.

Well you just rawk, that's all!

that is a fab web site, what was it on the food network for?
tashabear From: tashabear Date: December 20th, 2006 01:31 am (UTC) (base camp)
It was just a little PSA-style bump. I love Food Network... I also saw these awesome Tupperware containers on Unwrapped. Why don't I see these things before people ask me what I want for Christmas?
kuzu_no_ha From: kuzu_no_ha Date: December 20th, 2006 01:35 am (UTC) (base camp)
I had heard she was going to do a show or..something? I can't really recall the particulars.
tashabear From: tashabear Date: December 20th, 2006 01:50 am (UTC) (base camp)
I don't think it was mentioned on the PSA, but if I hear anything, I'll mention it.

*excellent*

esmerel From: esmerel Date: December 20th, 2006 02:11 am (UTC) (base camp)
That'd be lovely. One of my best friends is completely gluten intolerant/allergic, and also nightshades. Ugh. But she's still a giant food lover.

At least there's a whole lot more honesty in packaging lately!
So, thanks tashabear for posting about that blog =)

And zohra:
If you miss beer, I got a couple bottles of Bard's Tale for her, and she got to try it over the weekend. Her: OH MY GOD it's BEER. I have BEER. (http://liquidsolutions.biz/main/ carries it). And, since I popped over to your blog, she (and many other food allergic people I know) think Living Without is a really good magazine. :)

I heard about that brand of beer and I couldnt' find any! Thank you so much.

I'm sorry for your friend being also allergic to nightshade. That would be so difficult to work around!

And hurray a good review of that magazine! thanks!

You bet. =) The liquid solutions people are a small business, and we've always had excellent service from them. I was surprised to find they carried Bard's Tale, so I could not resist ordering a few when I knew she'd be around to visit! They also carry Hambleton Toleration, which she tried. She didn't like it as well as the Bard's Tale, but it was drinkable.

And yeah, I guess the nightshade thing is actually fairly common among celiacs - she knows a number of them. Very unfortunate because WOW it's so much you can't eat. We've learned to work around it though. Thank goodness for Penzey's and Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.

I worship at the feet of Penzeys spices. Oh my word I do.

that beer is sold up here.
If I had known you could not find it, I would have had it in the house for you.

I will see if I can get there Friday.

The way things are going, it's the only part of my house that's presentable enough for a party. X-P

Actually, after my mom's done moving out of the old house, she said she'd come over here and help me with mine. I still have boxes in the library from when I moved in here five years ago. And someday, I'm gutting the kitchen: taking out a window, moving the fridge and the stove, putting in new floors, ceiling, cupboards and counters, taking out a slop sink in the back pantry, new cupboards back there... I almost think I need to get deployed again so I can save up some money, cause it's going to cost a freakin' FORTUNE.

Might I suggest lottery tickets as a safer option?
tashabear From: tashabear Date: December 20th, 2006 03:42 am (UTC) (base camp)
Lottery tickets don't come with health or life insurance.
