food changes
Wow, my food cravings are changing, and that is SUCH a good thing. I have sweets in the house, and I just really don't want them. I just had a salad, and I'm just really wishing I had some fruit -- I want some canteloupe. I'm very tempted to make some of that fruit salsa that I made for peacockduchess's Christmas party, but it made so much food and I don't know how long it would keep... but it'd be so yummy mixed with Bran Flakes or granola! Or yogurt... yum! I think I need to go grocery shopping.

There are a bunch of other things I need to get, too. Now that we're getting the kitchen in order and I'm starting to get some storage so I can have more than one roll of paper towel at a time (the storage situation in my house is seriously that dire), there are a few things I need to pick up. We're supposed to be going to the mall today to try to find a coat for me, so I may drag darkwolfie to Shaw's for some grocery shopping. They have the best produce section around -- Walmart's is pathetic, and Market Basket's is only marginally better, though Market Basket has a better cheese selection. I'm boggled that that even matters to me, but it does.

I've been having a great time cooking for darkwolfie, and he's been having a great time cooking for me. If I can just get both of us eating more vegetables, it'll all be good.

i feel: happy happy

Fruit salsa? ears perk up. With cantaloupe?

tell me more!

The Big Botany meeting was in Chico California this past August. I could *really* get use to fresh fruit 3 times a day .....

Well, cantaloupe by itself is teh yum, and what I was craving, but fruit salsa is super easy. You just chop finely 1 cup strawberries, 2 or 3 kiwis, 2 or 3 bananas, 2 navel oranges, 2 Granny Smith apples, and toss in a cup of raspberries or blueberries (or both). Then you lash in 1/4-1/2 cup of sugar, a couple of big spoonsful of apple jelly, a good squirt of lemon juice, and serve with cinnamon pita chips. I think it'd make a great topping for waffles or pancakes or ice cream, though, or as I said, mixed into yogurt or granola.

So where do I know you from? Your email address is wicked familiar. SCAHRLDS, maybe?

Oh. That sounds **so** good. droolage on the keyboard good!

Not a herald (I can barely "translate" a blazon ... or should that be emblazon ...), but you can find me on most garb and/or embroidery groups .....

And then, there's most anything associated with Trillium and/or wildflowers ...

Oh! Maybe the SCA_garb list, the original?
florentinescot From: florentinescot Date: January 3rd, 2007 03:19 am (UTC) (base camp)
Probably. I think I'm on both -- the yahoo list and the one out of uvm.edu (maybe .....)
tashabear From: tashabear Date: January 3rd, 2007 03:33 am (UTC) (base camp)
Oh, I bailed on the Yahoo list. Too many stupid people, not enough emphasis on authenticity. The mod and I *really* didn't get along.
florentinescot From: florentinescot Date: January 3rd, 2007 03:48 am (UTC) (base camp)
*giggle*

*blink*

wonder who that might be .....

The uvm list is awfully quite most of the time. h-costume is rather active, though; only "problem" is that it's not SCA specific. Lots of other periods ..... (she says like it's A Bad Thing ..... ::snrk::)

I've done the whole spectrum on authenticity in my tenure in the SCA. I understand folks that aren't authenticity minded. As I make new stuff, I'm trying to do it "right" this time. I lurk on SCA-Authentic too. Haven't posted on many lists lately -- spending more time on the dissertation .....

Yes, well, dissertations will eat your brain, I hear.

I'm okay with a spectrum of authenticity, I really am. But when people don't want to even know what *should* be used, and those trying to impart the information are actively silenced... I can't be there for that.
florentinescot From: florentinescot Date: January 3rd, 2007 04:06 am (UTC) (base camp)
LOL -- I always hears it was tenure .... :-)

I bet I remember that blow-up. It was rather ugly. There were folks that were pushing Authenticity (to the exclusion of all else); folks that were pushing Quick and Dirty (to the exclusion of all else); and folks trying to make a Middle Ground. There hasn't been a blow-up like that in a long time.

The last Snark Attack was when some people offered to help her moderate. LOL.
tashabear From: tashabear Date: January 3rd, 2007 04:21 am (UTC) (base camp)
Tenure, I hear, is more about collecting stuff for the Big Box of Tenure Materials, less than writing like a dissertation. (One of the other members of my f-list just went through it, and another just got his PhD in genetics.)

That particular blow-up is why I laugh at people who get their hackles up about flaming on LJ. All I can think is that they don't have a clue about what flaming really is, because they've never been on an SCA list when things go very, very pear-shaped. Not only do you get flamed, you get flamed using words you have to look up in a dictionary -- possibly a dictionary of another language.
florentinescot From: florentinescot Date: January 3rd, 2007 04:26 am (UTC) (base camp)
There used to be a thing about getting tenure was like turning into some lower vertebrate that eats its brain ....

I've not been on LJ very long, but I've not seen any flaming here yet. I've seen folks talk about it, but I've not gone and looked for The Battle!

Go look at lj_design -- there's a great backlash against the new update page.
florentinescot From: florentinescot Date: January 3rd, 2007 02:00 pm (UTC) (base camp)
LOL

I'd never used the old one enough to notice the switch until somebody said something about it. I have gathered that most folks *don't* like it!

I really hate having the user pic above the update box. Even if I choose my icon before I start writing, I often change it, and then I have to scroll back up. Good web design means never EVER making your users scroll up.
florentinescot From: florentinescot Date: January 3rd, 2007 03:18 pm (UTC) (base camp)
I don't mind scrolling up and down (well, not that much) -- what I *really* hate is scrolling side to side! IMO, fixed width tables should die!

How did you develop this problem, and can you show me how?
tashabear From: tashabear Date: January 3rd, 2007 01:15 pm (UTC) (base camp)
I have no idea; it's a big part of why I'm boggled and yet not arguing.
