short spurts of productivity
So we used the day passes at RetroFitness today. I did 30 minutes or so on the treadmill, mostly walking, but there were spurts of jogging, and one fairly decent kick. My lungs hurt now, though -- I'm not coughing up the smoking, but I am trying to breathe through it, and my lungs always did have rather poor capacity. I think that unless I get really drunk or really stressed, I'm pretty much done smoking.

My new iPod shuffle was awesome. I clipped it inside my shirt, to my bra, so I could still feel the controls, but I would notice if it fell off. Then I ran the headphone cables down my shirt so they weren't bouncing around. All I need to do now is build a good playlist and I'm all set.

And tonight, we try another experiment in cooking: homemade pizza. I made a garlic pizza crust in the bread machine; it's resting now, waiting for me to put the toppings on. I have to bake it on a cookie sheet for now, because I don't have a pizza stone, but it should be fine. And if it's not, it's still early enough to order in.

Time for toppings...

EDIT: The pizza was a complete success, but the crust wasn't as garlicky as we would have liked. I used dried, minced garlic; I think it might have been better if I'd used fresh garlic (which I didn't have). It was also a little dry, so I'm going to have to do a little research to see what I need to do to fix that. darkwolfie liked it, though, and so did I, so it was a successful first outing.

Maybe some garlic oil in it next time around? I found that pre-baking the crusts, brushing with olive oil (or egg, or apricot jam for sweet pizzas) and then putting the toppings on and cooking it just enough longer to melt the cheese helped it keep from drying out.

Pre-baking is a good idea. I was thinking of adding some garlic powder to the dough, as well.
