last minute? me?
I started going through garb for Panteria next weekend, because I knew some of it wanted mending. I could actually only find one smock that needed fixing (I'd practically ripped the gusset out, because the seam allowances were too small), and the rest is actually all set, if wrinkly. But then I started looking at darkwolfie's cloak, and realized that I'd never finished the Cloak Project. It's half-sewn on now, and I expect to finish it tomorrow night. The annoying part is that I have to put it on my lap on top of the lid to a plastic bin, because the bit I have to sew is so far in from the edge of the tunic. I use the plastic lid as a skid surface. The stitches aren't what I wish they were, and it's a bit puckery in spots, but it'll be on, and he'll be able to wear it.

With any luck, I'll have the time to put together the wool tunic I've had cut out for a year, as well. I have wool garb, but my beloved has none, and this is Panther Vale in May -- he'll want it.

Now I just have to figure out what we're taking for bedding, since various feline emissions (from both ends) have whittled down my stock of bedding and necessitated the use of camping bedding in our bedroom. I think I'll be taking the gold-colored sheets, the blue "mink" blanket, the blue cotton blanket, and the down duvet I got at IKEA -- must remember to wash the duvet cover. I also need to stop by EMS at the mall and get a compression sack for the duvet. It'll squash down quite small, but won't stay that way without help. Push comes to shove, maybe the sack for my sleeping bag will work.

Lots to do, lots to do. *grin*

If you have some canvas or other semi-heavy fabric laying around, you can always just make your own sack that squishes down. Rectangle the size you need, drawstring closure. Just like pants, only easier.

I need serious compression, like this. In fact, I ordered one of those last night, in black, with six straps, like the one for my sleeping bag. Sometimes, when you can, you just have to admit to yourself that you'll never make whatever it is you could easily make, and spend the money you'd otherwise spend on materials on the finished product. Okay, I have to do that. I'm just lucky that I have a job that lets me cop out that way. ;-)

Makes sense.

I think that most scadians, including myself, have Oh, I can make that myself disease. I'm glad you have managed to overcome it and be realistic in this case. :-P

It was a battle, let me tell you. But once I just started being honest with myself -- "Yes, I can do it, but will I?" -- it got a lot easier. This is also why I buy bagged salad and cut melon. I got tired of watching produce rot in my fridge because I was too lazy to prepare it.

off topic... are you going to pensic? i'm supposed to go with a friend of mine, but i can't stay in their camp. i've never been before, so i'm trying to figure out... how one finds a camp to stay with. i'm not very good at this whole deal, and i wish i new more about this whole deal by diving in head first for a week! just looking for advice, i guess.

The current plan is to go. I'm still waiting to see if my husband can get time off. I'll still end up going, if only for the middle weekend, as I'm heavily involved in the Queen's Tea.

One usually finds a camp to stay with by camping with a group of friends. It's a shame that your friend's camp can't find (emotional, or whatever) space for you, since when you pre-register with their camp they get and additional 250 square feet for you and your stuff, so it's unlikely to be a space issue. Since they're not being hospitable, have you tried asking your local group if they're doing a shire/canton/barony camp? If all else fails, there's single camping, but I'd skip Pennsic before I'd camp there -- there's no one to watch your stuff when you're out. (There's always someone at home in my camp.)

Good luck!

my friend's sister is in a group and for whatever reason, they're just BARELY accepting my friend, let alone a friend-of-a-friend type. a shame indeed. honestly, i dont even know what my local group IS. i'm kind of socially retarded when it comes to finding pagan and medieval-type friends in my area, i just DONT know where to look. well hey, if your camp would like an extra 250 sq feet, i'm a lovely girl :) hah.

thanks so much for the advice, i really appreciate hearing from those more traveled in these circles.

www.eastkingdom.org -- if your user info is correct, you're in the Barony of An Dubhaigeainn (pronounced ann' doo-va-gann' -- more or less), which is Suffolk County, New York.

Good luck!
