okay, i'm over it.
So I've been getting this sneaky suspicion that my laptop is about to give up the ghost in some way. Given that, I'm browsing different manufacturers to see what's out there. I know there are folks on my friends list who will recommend a Mac, but in order to get a Mac with the specs I want, it would be >$2000.

One of the perks of being in the military is getting in on special discounts and buying opportunities for service members. They even have an agreement with Alienware. I've been drooling over Alienware products for years. Even their low-end laptop has the specs I've been wanting in other manufacturer's top-of-the-line models. Unlike many, many other manufacturers, there are no important ports (say, the headphone port, or worse, the CD tray) on the front edge. Seriously -- how are you supposed to use the thing on your lap when your headphones are poking you in the tummy and running the risk of breaking off? Plus, they use a volume wheel, instead of a button, which is so much easier when you forget that you turned the thing up to watch a movie and you're now starting the machine up in a library or somewhere else you want to be quiet.

And to top it all off... you can upgrade to a
350gb hard drive
. Yes, okay,
fine
-- I am a storage size queen. I hoard files, though, and I love watching video on my computer, and those files ain't small, so yes, I do want a gigantic hard drive, and this is the largest I've ever seen available on a laptop.

I think I've found my new laptop... whenever this one craps out on me, anyway.

i feel: chipper chipper

JtB would definitely recommend Alienware. Very good company.

Excellent -- always good to get that sort of recommendation from a pro.

I just wish they still came in colors...

And just because you said that your current laptop will live for years just to prove you wrong. Oh wait that's my car. :)
