A lot of you may know that I used to study martial arts pretty intensively. I was about ready to test for my black belt, when shit happened and I had to quit. Now that dojo is under the management of someone I can't stand and whose skills I truly do not respect, so I wouldn't go back there even if it was geographically convenient.

There's a studio in Salem, NH that I've been interested for some time now. They teach Krav Maga, which is an Israeli art, utilized by their Security Forces. I've either not had the time or not had the money, and now that I have both, I have a bum shoulder.

I just sent them an email to see if my shoulder is something that can be worked around with that style. I miss training and fighting so bad I can taste it. I want to study again, but I don't want to hurt myself. I just feel like, if I commit to going to classes, maybe I'll really have a chance to gain some strength and find my center again. I've been drifting for so long... And maybe darkwolfie will go with me. We've never studied together. I think it'd be fun.

Can anything be done for your shoulder? I had arthroscopic surgery to scrape down and reattach the bits of my right shoulder back together. The rehab hurt like a sumb*tch but it's pretty near good as new.

'Course now the LEFT shoulder is making noises that it doesn't like me. *sigh*

I don't know. I have arthritis in my shoulder, and a little bone spur has grown that's rubbing on my rotator cuff. It aches sometimes and never feels quite right, and I was doing some lifting and carrying the other day that left me scrambling for the ibuprofen, but I'm sort of used to pain.

I'm supposed to be in physical therapy, but they keep sending me away from home for a month at a time, and I can't keep continuity of care. I could get injections, and I could eventually get surgery to scrape that spur down, but those are next steps if the therapy doesn't work.

Maybe you can incorporate a few moves you've learned earlier into your regular workouts until you can start with the new martial arts classes? (Moves you enjoy that don't stress your shoulder.)

I came home from the recent Quintavian Hafla event remembering how much fun I used to have doing some basic bellydance moves. I've been working more on my abs lately, so I decided that I want to add a few bellydance moves to my at-home workouts this spring, for variety and fun.

Ya know, if you are going to keep zooming through my neighborhood, we should arrange to have tea and knit sometime :-)

I really should! After I get off active duty, I'll have more time in our neck of the woods.
