color matching grumbles
I made a hat for my mom out of this (in fact, I think it's this colorway -- purple with a sort shimmery rainbow variegation; the monitor colors here at work are f'ked up). Heh... just realized that it calls for 7-8mm needles. I used size 8 US needles, which are 5mm. Oh well, the hat turned out nicely anyway, and I think she'll love it. The yarn is 45% acrylic, 30% microfiber, and 25% wool, and just a dream to work with.

The grumble comes now that I've finished another hat for my sister, out of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran (55% merino wool, 33% microfiber, 12% cashmere), in colorway 612 (I think, again, the f'ked up colors on this POS monitor). I was hoping to be able to do a decorative brim on the cashmerino using the end of the ball of Boom, but I just now realized that the purples are two entirely different shades. Different enough that they'll look like crap together.

Oh well, no worries. I did a nice slipped edging on the brim of the hat, which makes it look all professional and stuff, and I think she'll love it. Best of all, I had almost an entire ball of yarn left over, so I can make something for myself out of this übersoft yarn.

I guess I'm really blessed to have a fabulous yarn shop in the town where I grew up, and where my mom still lives, only 30 minutes from where I live now. I hadn't realized till I went looking that they were so good. They carry just about any fiber I could ever hope to knit with, from acrylic to cashmere, plus doing spinning, knitting, and weaving lessons. Bare Hill Studios, Harvard, MA. 978-456-8669, or 800-874-9276. Not affiliated, but highly recommended.
