BEST. DAY. EVAR. - when you don't know what to do... — LiveJournal
do the next thing
darkwolfie and I rolled up to Bay-4 Motorsports this morning to pick up his new Suzuki Savage. We also dropped off his 22 year old Kawasaki to get the carbs done. Then we headed over to Cracker Barrel in Andover for breakfast. I got a little misoriented on the way back towards Bay-4, but I figured it out. I'm getting better at remembering road signs (which are harder to read on a motorcycle than in a car), but I need to work on memorizing landmarks when I make turns, so I can backtrack.

Rick at Bay-4 was able to re-tap the stripped socket on my windshield bracket, so we swung by the house and I put the windshield back on. What a relief! I've been fighting wind all week without it, and it's freakin' tiring! darkwolfie's new ride came with a windshield, and now he sees why I love mine. It just deflects the wind off your chest and makes riding less of a struggle.

We wanted to go up to Pembroke to National Powersports Distributors to see the Vulcan I'm buying, but we got there 20 minutes after they closed. Silly me, didn't check their hours on Saturday. And they're closed on Sunday, so the first time darkwolfie sees the Vulcan may be when I pick it up.

But it was a gorgeous day for a ride, and darkwolfie had a great time on his new bike. He did learn what it means to ride a thumper, though -- the vibration will shake your fillings out! Well, okay, it's not that bad. But your butt will go numb after a while. I've put 250 miles on my bike since Thursday, so I think my butt is permanently numb. The Vulcan is a parallel twin, though, so I'm hoping that it won't vibrate as much, and I can give darkwolfie my Butt Buffer. Otherwise, guess what he's getting for an anniversary present?

He says that the power band is wider on his new bike. No shock there; he more than doubled the displacement! He says that he was in 3rd gear most of the way to Pembroke, while I had my bike in 5th and cranked almost wide open just to get up to 50 or so. (There are a LOT of hills on Rte 28 to Pembroke.) I can't wait to see what the Vulcan can do!

On the way back, we stopped at Lake Massabesic and took some pictures. I figure, all trip reports need pictures, right? It was lovely and cool and picturesque, and we had to leave after about ten minutes, because the lapping water made me need to pee. There was a portapotty there, but ew, who knew when it was serviced last, and the likelihood of there being toilet paper was slim. The speed bumps were too high, though, and it bottomed out my bike, which was irritating.

It's been a week of firsts for me. I got caught in the rain last weekend. I went to Mason to visit booniesjen and palegreyminion, and the stupid route that Google gave me put me on dirt roads. That was new and different. I went on 80 mile round trips by myself. It's been an amazing week. But today was the bestest day of all, because I got to ride with darkwolfie and amuse him with my braids dancing in the breeze. Life is good.

i feel: happy happy

I have to note - that second picture... from his stance, it looks like he's taking a wee in the lake:)

*gasp* Are you wearing pink leathers!?!? Oh, how cool. Where ever did you find them?

That's a textile jacket, but they do make pink leathers.
