I gave my sister a skein of wool and a pair of knitting needles for Christmas. I enclosed a little note that read "THE FIRST HIT IS FREE." We spent a little time Christmas afternoon teaching her to cast on (she likes long-tail better than knit-on), do simple garter stitch, and cast off. Yesterday afternoon, she went to the LYS and bought more yarn.

Another knitter assimilated.

(She travels a lot, and hopes to be able to knit when she's not driving, as stamping and quilting, her other main hobbies, are not conducive to automobile travel.)

FYI..... other travel projects.

Hi, we haven't met yet, but we will eventually, I think. We're both in the SCA, and we have a friend in common.

For what it's worth, I used to be a business traveler. I always found that doing a small beaded fringe on a silk scarf was relaxing on a plane, and also a conversation starter. "Good gracious, what are you doing?" type comments.

Great idea!

Sis isn't a SCAdian, though, and she hates handsewing (though she wants to learn to embroider. Why she started with ribbon embroidery is beyond me). They generally drive everywhere, as their travel is pretty much within New England, and that way they have a car to use when they get to the audit site. Our cousin is preggers, so maybe she wants to knit some stuff for baby, I don't know. But I've sucked her in, along with Mom, who just knit an eyelash scarf! Muahahaha!!!
