do the next thing
it's gone.
I sold my baby... my first bike, my GZ250, the bike that taught me how much fun I could have with my knees in the breeze... gone. A woman came to look at it today with her brother, they handed me a wad of cash and loaded it up in the truck, and now it's gone.

I'm glad, because what I got for it is a large chunk of what I paid for the Vulcan, but I'm sad because it's my BABY (wail), and even though I haven't ridden it since I got the Vulcan, I'm still going to miss it.

On the other hand, I now have enough money for the few farkles I wanted for my new bike: a windshield, a sissy bar, and a luggage rack, plus a tail bag and material to make the tank bra. I'm kind of thinking of some nice leather saddlebags... we'll see. I don't actually want the sissy bar so I can take a passenger; it'll make it easier to mount some luggage.

Good with the bad, right? I'm just glad I didn't see them drive away...

i feel: sad wistful

Here's hoping the bike gets to teach someone else what it taught you :)

That's what I'm hoping.

I know what you mean. I had to deliver my ZX6 to the buyer (who is a friend). It was a bittersweet ride.

I'll miss the ZX not starting right away on cold days. I'll miss fiddling the choke until it will close all the way w/o dying. I'll miss the inline 4 whine (not to mention how friggin' fast that bike was...).

Then there are days I just jump on the SV, thumb the starter and go (aaah, FI). Gotta love that V-twin rumble too.

I think the next bike needs to be another 600cc SS though... GSX? CBR? Some other mash of random letters of the alphabet... who knows?

I hadn't ridden the GZ for a couple of weeks, and when they started it up today I was shocked at how thin and reedy the engine sounded. The Vulcan, having a retooled Ninja 500 engine, rumbles when it starts, but spools up to a little more of a sport bike sound when you roll the throttle.

The Vulcan is a better bike for me, but seeing the GZ on the back of the truck and taking off the plate... Wow. That was a wrench.

Having a wad of cash in my back pocket helps cushion the blow a bit, though.
