facehugger ahoy - when you don't know what to do...

facehugger ahoy
I saw the respiratory therapist today, to get my CPAP machine. It's very small and compact without the humidifier, so I think I'll be able to travel with it with no problem.

The sleep study results were fascinating. As I've said before, I had a split night study, where I slept part of the night without the CPAP, and part of the night with. I had to have more than 80 sleep disturbances in the night in order for them to put me on CPAP. During the first part of the night, when I was without breathing support, I had 181 sleep disturbances. I'm supposed to cycle through REM sleep every 90 minutes. I went hours without REM at all. Normal O2 saturation is 97%. During the disturbances, my saturation dropped to 81%.

After the CPAP I had maybe 4 disturbances, and a good, long REM cycle. Apparently I don't experience apnea, which is a complete occlusion of the airway, but hypopnea, which is a partial occlusion. It sort of explains why I have a tendency to resist going to bed -- I think that subconsciously, I know I'm going to slowly suffocate.

So now, I just have to clear a space on my nightstand for everything, and I'm going to have to hustle and track down an inverter, adapter, and marine battery so I can have the unit at Panteria. I'm taking it with me to the Breast Cancer Walk, too, since we're only camping one night. This is going to be interesting...

Apparently I was inviting flies in, so I have a full face mask.

I can't breathe through my mouth at pressure -- talking is hilarious. And a little bit painful.

You really don't need all that stuff. For $60 you can get a car power outlet box thingie that will take a two-day charge.

I can post a link later.
