good thing those bags are cheap - when you don't know what to do... — LiveJournal

good thing those bags are cheap
So we picked up some new food for Max, prescription stuff meant to support his kidneys, because his bloodwork is showing early signs of kidney disease. It was in a reuseable bag from the grocery store, on the floor in the bathroom.

Apparently leaving it on the floor was a mistake, because Max wanted some and he wanted it NOW. He went through the side of the bag, dragging it from the bathroom into the parlor, and was starting to get into the sandwich bag that held one of the dry food samples when I realized what that rustling sound was. So I grabbed a bowl and gave him about half a cup, and he just dived into it. He's shut in the bathroom right now, because I don't want Mathilde (the other cat) getting into the special food just yet. It's been almost ten minutes; I'm going to go see if he's still eating.

ETA: He ate about half or two-thirds of it. I offered him some of the wet food, but he wasn't interested, so I covered it and put it in the fridge for later. It's promising!

I'm going to save out some of the dry to try it with Mathilde. If the doctor says it's okay to give the renal dry food to an otherwise healthy cat, then I'll fill the feeder with the renal dry and give Max the wet food in the bathroom. Otherwise, we'll have to do something else. I don't want to upset Mathilde's applecart too much; she doesn't do change.

Glad he likes it; that'll make things easier. :-)

He JUMPED on it. Very gratifying. I have other samples to offer him, so we'll see how he likes those, too.
