ten days - when you don't know what to do...
do the next thing
ten days
Ten days.

That's how long it took to get my passport. I turned in the paperwork on 21 July, and I received it yesterday. And really it's only eight days, because of the weekend.

I am singularly impressed by the swiftness with which we have received our passports. I mailed the corrected birth certificate for darkwolfie a week ago Friday, and he got his on Tuesday -- they must have had it ready to go, and popped it in the mail when they received the correction.

I am pleased. We are ready for whatever border-crossing foolishness the US government decided to enact in regards to entering Canada. Because while right now we can cross the border using only our birth certificates, who knows when that will change.

i feel: happy happy

The woman who deals with passport stuff at my local post office said that last summer they hired 250 more processors and kept them all. :)

Smart move, since you need them for everything now.

Why should we be any different from any other country, though...

Did you pay for the expedited service, or was that just "regular" service?

That was the regular service!

That's amazing. Mine took something like 4 months last year (of course that was during the "everyone needs a passport mess- which is why I got it 9 months before I needed it.)

So you can go to Canada with just a birth certificate? Why do you need a passport to Mexico then?
tashabear From: tashabear Date: August 2nd, 2008 01:58 pm (UTC) (base camp)
You don't, necessarily. Mexico and Canada have the same requirements; it just depends on how you enter. We're going by sea, so no passport. Same if we were driving. We'd need just a birth certificate and driver's license. If we were flying, we'd need passports. It's not that they're needed to enter those two countries, it's that they're needed to re-enter the US. We just figured that it'd be better to have them.

yay! I was pretty impressed when mine came through quickly as well.
I use my passport for going to Michigan. It beats having to get out of line all the freakin time.
With a name like "Zohra" it happened all the time.
