this one was easier
I made a passport wallet for darkwolfie last night. This was a lot easier, as I had a template for the design, and really just had to tool it, paint and finish it, and stitch it together.

impressionistic fur

The whole wallet, with the carved design:

I was really worried that the painting would come out a greeny-grey blop, and when you look at it up close (like 6") it's not that pretty, but it looks really good at normal reading length. Besides, who really looks that closely at wallets, anyway? ;-)

I have friends who would DROOL over that. :)

Really? ...huh. Are they the sort of friends who would pay $80 for it? Because the kit was $20, and I had 4-5 hours of work in it. Now, I'm not sure if lightning would strike twice with the painting, but in the next few months, I might be ready to open an Etsy shop or something.

I can think of things I'd pay that for, especially if you offered custom color choices or something.

Like what? I'm not saying this is going to happen anytime soon, but it can't hurt to collect data.

Well, hm. I have a zillion discount card thingies that I currently keep in a plastic Sanrio card wallet, something nicer for that insert. I have a bunch of Circa notebooky stuff from Levenger and while they offer leather covers, they're, you know... awfully corporate for a knitting design notebook. Something to put business-card sized things into (which reminds me that I should figure out where the heck my calling cards have got to).

So... an organizer with credit card-sized slots and business card pages?

Or are you talking about three different items?
emmacrew From: emmacrew Date: August 26th, 2008 07:48 am (UTC) (base camp)
I was vaguely thinking of different items, but I'm tired and probably not writing well. Reading what you just wrote, though, my brain said "notebook cover with a place to keep cards and a slot for knitting needles!" cuz of course everything has to hold knitting needles. Ha. I wonder how leather DPN cases would go over -- sturdier than fabric, so you could stick it in a bag? I should probably go to bed while I'm ahead of the game.

I have an idea for a business card case. And if you send me a pic of the Sanrio wallet thingy, I might be able to find something suitable, or design something. Wanna be my guinea pig? It'll just cost you materials.

*pokes at Tandy website* Huh, iPod cases. I guess not unexpected considering the knitted iPod cozies that crop up all the time. *gick* "Support ribbons." Aaaanyways.

The Sanrio thingy is approximately the size and shape of this kit, with an added insert of plastic pocket pages like you see in wallets sometimes. Guinea pig ahoy!
