revelation - when you don't know what to do... — LiveJournal
do the next thing
Y'all aren't going to believe this, but I just had an idle thought that turned into a revelation:

I think I'm starting to understand my dad.

See, he always frustrated me when I wanted him to try something with me with a "been there, done that" attitude. And recently, he commented to my mom that I'll stick with knitting until I have it mastered, and then I'll move on to something new. (What he doesn't realize is how much there is to master, and always new yarns and new techniques coming along.) And I got to thinking about all the stuff I've tried, gotten decent at, and abandoned... and I realized where that attitude came from.

Like my dad, I feel no need to go back and do something again after I've tried it. But like my dad and his quest for the perfect bullet, there's always something to spur me on, and always a new challenge to meet.

God help me, I think I get it.
