another year nearly gone - when you don't know what to do...
do the next thing
another year nearly gone
Christmas was good this year, and I was a lucky girl. My mom gave me a complete new set of cookware, which means I can throw away the ratty old non-stick that's shedding Teflon. My brother-in-law was very confused as to why I was happy-dancing, but he hasn't seen how ragged those pots are.

My husband was a meanie, though. No shit, there we were, at my mom's... I've wanted a Kitchenaid stand mixer for years, and the box under the tree was the right size, but it felt light... I opened the wrapping, and it WAS a Kitchenaid mixer! Joy! Rapture! Oh Frabjous Day! Let's open it and have a look...

What the...

There was a pillow, a brick, and a Kitchenaid brand spoon in Empire Red, same as on the box. He got me a Kitchenaid mixer, all right... the manual version.

Ain't he a stinker?

(The mixer was in the closet. We went to Mom's the night before for dinner, and he pulled the switch, with my dad's complicity, while I was out getting Chinese food.)

Other than that, my in-laws again showed a near-total lack of understanding of who I am and what I'm about by giving me a glass candy dish and a gigantic ceramic bowl full of smelly-good bath stuff. Oh well. I have them held in reserve, just in case I need a generic gift. I'm not ungrateful, but even if I wanted a glass candy dish, that wouldn't be what I would choose.

i feel: hungry hungry

My sister's husband is much better about getting me gifts, but he has my sister to ask, and she can at least steer him away from smelly things.

Hee hee hee. That's hilarious.

It was MEAN! And the pillow was a throw pillow from my mom's couch. I got it in a Christmas gift. If it wasn't so ugly and dated I'd have kept it. I should have kept anyway... *pout*

(but still... SQUEE! Pretty red Kitchenaid stand mixer! 5 quart, tilt head, and there are ATTACHMENTS. I think we're going to get the grinder and the juicer, but I may ask on hip_domestics what attachments get the most use.)

(I can even get decals!)

I still miss my grinder! I'm unlikely to get another, as the power and space requirements are crazy while living on a sailboat where we produce our own electricity.

A friend of ours helped us buy one several years ago (we returned the favor by buying one for him and his new wife as a wedding gift). We looooove ours. Wolfie played a mean trick :D
