do the next thing
I have a date with my boy tomorrow afternoon. He has a half day and I'm unemployed, so we're going to make the most of it, and go for ice cream and batting cages. Batting cages rule -- even on fast pitch, the softballs are lobbed slower than the pitchers I faced in college. This enables me to whale them suckers right out of the park! Actually, I think I hit better now because I have more upper body strength... or I did. Last time I went to the cages, I was still active at the dojo. Since I had to quit, I've become quite sluglike. Not that it's all bad; I get to catch up on back episodes of Monarch Of The Glen and spend quality time with my girl Patience (my spinning wheel), but it's not good for me.

Speaking of quality time... the embroidery commission is away; I mailed it Tuesday after a stressful Monday spent finishing the hankies. They all smell like coconut now; I washed them in some Paul Mitchell shampoo I don't use very often. This left me with time to work on my new Regia socks and to spin the last of the wool for my handspun scarf... which I ripped out entirely last night and started to re-knit. It was too wide and not long enough. I wound it onto the distaff from my wheel, which they said could be used as a nostepinde... They lied. I ended up pulling the core out of the ball when it stuck on the distaff. It's not a major deal, but it does sort of illustrate the fact the at I now need a nostepinde. The ball itself did turn out nicely, however, and I now know (in a practicxal as well as theoretical sense) how to wind a ball on a nosty.

I got to spend some time with Patience as well, today, and finished plying my remaining BFL yarn. I still need to set the twist, but it's done and off the bobbins so I could start spinning new singles. And spin I did! Patience was making very odd noises as she took up, and I couldn't figure out why, till I took a chance and loosened the drive band. Now she's nice and quiet, spinning like an utter dream. I think that I'll try to keep the drive band as loose as possible, only tight enough to keep the wheel spinning. No sense in stressing it any more than is necessary. I do feel so much better, more in tune with the world, when I spin.

Heh... I'm looking at the Greensleeves Spindles website. They make a spindle called a Mjollinor and another called a Loki. I love the look of both the Mjollinor and the Loki, but I'll have to pass on the Loki -- he messes with my life enough without inviting trouble!

Oh, good grief, I've done it again... stayed up WAY too late. I have GOT to stop doing this. We have to get up early on Saturday -- we're going to see Alyson's Orchard! I want this for our wedding. I really do. I'll wait if I have to. Pleaseohplease, Universe, let me find a way to make this happen...

I don't get it. Why wouldn't you be able to use the orchard?

In a word, money. Also, sometimes places aren't as fabulous as they look online.
