The G-20 summit is in Pittsburgh this week.

The Pirates have been at home for a series against Cinncinnati. They lost.

When Anthrocon is in town, they win.

Businesses around the convention center have closed, not just big places like Alcoa, but little businesses like Fernando's Cafe. ' “Are you kidding?” he [Fernando DeCarvalho, owner] said, choosing the furries, to whom he sold 3,000 sandwiches on a Friday when they attended the convention at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. “All I need is three of those conventions and I can close for the rest of the year.” ' (http://pittsburgh.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/stories/2009/08/17/story2.html?b=1250481600^1935881)

Heh. Hehehehehehehh. We win.

I can't tell you how amused I am by this.

Seen at work today: "G20: building the world economy by crippling a local one". Seriously, downtown is a ghost town; everybody who could closed. With only three points of entry to the area, all under heavy security, and a mere handful of prospective customers (1500 G20 people, 2000 media? that's chump change for the convention center), how could they expect to do enough business to be worthwhile?

I'm still kind of boggled by this being here. We're a great example of turning a bad economy around? Well yes, we were, but currently the city is in receivership! And the state is nearly 90 days past due on a budget! Um, what?
