Ger - when you don't know what to do... — LiveJournal
do the next thing
Well, the Ger Project is underway again. Today, Wolfie and I went to Home Despot and picked up $30 worth of furring strips that will be chopped, marked, drilled, and ripped into lath for the wall section of our 16' Mongolian ger.

I started the ger project with my household brother Duane about a year ago. We got a lot done, but unfortunately, two different sets of plans got combined in an incompatible manner, and the framework had to be scrapped. At the time, we were both single, so we were making 14 footers. Now I have Wolfie and he has his fiancee Lynn, so we've decided that 16' gers are in order. Unfortunately, Duane and Lynn are trying to close on a condo, and Duane discovered an automotive disaster yesterday, so Wolfie and I will be resuming the project without them for the time being.

So we picked up the furring strips in Salem (no sales tax in NH!) and took them down to my folks' house. My dad has all the tools we'll need for this project -- chop saw, table saw, and drill press. We might use the band saw. Haven't decided yet. Plenty of time to figure that out. I'm itching to get started. I'm going to go down tomorrow while Wolfie's sleeping and chop and mark the wood, then possibly get started on drilling the strips if I have time. I'm doing half as many this time as I did before, since I'm not trying to do two gers at once, so it ought to go pretty quickly. If I'm ambitious and everything goes well, I could conceivably get everything done tomorrow. It'll be hard going, but it could happen.

Blah.. but if it's going to, I'd best get to bed.
